No More - ‘Suicide Commando’
1981. A trio of young Germans from a seaside town named Kiel record this nagging, creeping, cyclical tune not about a kamikaze soldier but ‘too much drugs, too much pills and too much songs’. ‘I can’t stand the scene at all’ sings another weird looking teenager with just a synth for amusement, unaware that he was cooking up an international cult hit.
More aware of this cult hit were mid-00’s London band Twisted Charm, whose 2005 anthem ‘London Scene?’ bears more than a passing resemblance to the No More track…
